Week 1

The first class of dissertation is quite overwhelming, I am struggling to understand the requirements of the module, and we learned that the materials of dissertation are based on our design research methodology. We are required to do a literature review matrix in spreadsheet with our previous critical review done.


To-Do List :

  • Revisit DRM docs.

  • Start dissertation draft structure.

Week 2

 I was confused about the difference between critical review and literature review, and about us forming sub-headers for the literature review, but after consulting with Dr. Hayati, I have a better picture of what we are required to do. The key takeaway of what literature review is “ to cross examine and synthesise the context” according to Dr Hayati. A good understanding of the articles we read is crucial for us to do the literature review more effectively. For me, the start of the writing was extremely hard, I have to get used to writing again after one semester’s break. I also felt everything was rushed as it is a short period of time before the dateline, so I would continue to improvise and edit my literature review after this according to lecturer’s feedback later on.

WEEK 1

Specific Feedback : Not yet.

General Feedback : Abstract, acknowledgement to be written last. Content tables to be numbered. Start to have all headers for the contents / sections. For citation, parenthetical format to be written before the full-stop. 


WEEK 2

Specific Feedback : Dr Hayati mentioned about changing my working title from having the word “effective” into “The Study of Emotion Portrayal in 3D Animated Film” because the word effective gives a strong anticipation of readers being able to get a good solution of the research topic, which would be risky if I do not meet the expectations in the research, using “The Study” gives me more space to explore about the topic and not to be too worried about the results or effectiveness of the mechanisms or tools. 

General Feedback : A good understanding of the articles read is crucial and essential for us to be able to cross examine and synthesise the contents of them in the literature review.

I reached the office at 9am, and was briefed about the company's general knowledge and details by the HR, Swen. After that, Swen introduced me to my supervisor, Grace and we had an online meeting about my first task on Lark app. First day was very overwhelming as there is alot of information for me to digest. I need to get used to 2 new apps, Lark and Asana for smooth workflow.
