INSTRUCTIONS

FINAL GROUP PROJECT (SEX EDUCATION INFOGRAPHIC - YOUR BODY)

We were also briefed about our group project, which is the final assignment of this module, we are going to choose one topic out of two, between 'Your Body' or 'Family Planning'. After much discussion and understanding the scripts, our group decided to choose 'Your Body'. We also started to distribute the scenes to be animated among the members by chapters. I have chosen to work on the chapter about menstruation. 

We were to watch motion graphic videos and suggests a few ones to provide ideas for our animation video. 

Here are my findings and suggestions for references :

I suggested this motion graphic video because its visuals are simple vector illustration, 

yet done in a very fun and exciting manner. Its colour schemes are eye-catching. 

Another reason is that the video uses personification by giving the body cells facial 

features and limbs to act like a human, making viewers to understand more easily 

about the process of cells working in our body. 

This video uses first person narrative and creates a character that represents the 

main role of the video, which is very fun and engaging to the viewers.  

This video uses exciting transitions motion graphic. Its vector art style is simple 

and eye-catching. A sense of humour is also seen in this video, to draw the attention 

of the audience.

Script Breakdown and storyboard sketches

We were instructed to make a motion graphic video about the topic 'Your Body'. We distributed the parts among group members respectively. I was assigned to complete the subtopic 'Menstruation'. These are my rough sketches of the storyboard ideas.

Through discussion, we decided to split our task distribution into 2 groups, the illustrators and the animators, by ratio 3:3 person. 

Illustrators : Rebecca, Yeanne Tung and me (Huei Lian).

Animators : Zetie, Shu Huan and Yi Qing.

To distribute our parts between illustrators, Rebecca took over all human vectors, then, she gave us the file consists of all human, and me and Yeanne Tung split the scenes illustration to work on. I took over frame 3 - 8, and frame 13 - 15, while Yeanne Tung took frame 1 - 2,  9 - 12, 16 -17.

I illustrated the uterus based on Rebecca's storyboard sketch, and asked my groupmates to choose between these two colour scheme :

As a result, the one on the right side was chosen.

Feedbacks

Week 2 : About the infographic redesign task, Ms. Anis gave me feedbacks about to make the title stand out more so that the hierarchy is better.

Week 3 : Regarding our kinetic typography 'Butter', Mr. Martin likes our outcome, giving a 6 out of 5 marks, which adds 1 extra points. We are very happy and grateful. Regarding the LATCH poster, Ms. Anis said that its nice and ready to go.

Week 4 : We received feedback regarding our storyboard for sex education infographic vid, Mr. Martin, overall is fine, but we have to make sure that we include the arrow indications for movements.

Week 5 : Good job on storyboard animatics, be careful on the margins for the words and titles, so that they would not be too close to the borders.

Week 6 : For Pasta grannies poster, Miss said to make the 'pasta grannies' word bigger, and preferably use back their own logo, others are ready to go.

Week 7 : Good consistent work, make sure to have 80% progress by Sunday.

Reflection : I enjoyed doing this assignment, from storyboard making to final project making, our group has a good teamwork and the process of this project is fun and interesting with this team of people despite being a tired and tight schedule. Having not enough sleep though really affected my part of work though, which I did a lot of errors and careless mistakes through our progress, which I was disappointed and sad about it. Nevertheless, we managed to produce works that we are satisfied with, and will definitely improve in the future works. Motivation from the lecturers also made us more determined and strive to produce better work.

Observation : I love watching all other groups' work during class session each week, as I was inspired by all the unique and different ideas each group had, this allow me to think out of the box and be more creative.

Findings : I found out that transforming information into visuals to help audience understand the content in a more straightforward but interesting way is a challenging but fun work. I am definitely looking forward to creating infographics again in the future. Things to remind myself in the future : Make sure everything is in RGB colour format, double check the colours even in RGB as the colours might be different!
