INSTRUCTIONS

FINAL PROJECT

We were instructed to visualise and implement our finalised idea for this project. We decided to go with the tarot card idea. Firstly, we decided on our art style using telegram poll. Finally, we settled down on lineart vector.

After finalising our art style, we started sketching for our respective creatures and also for the chosen tarot card that fits in the creature's story and lesson. I sketched on medusa, with Justice of tarot card, which is one of the major arcana card, then we decided on the colour scheme and font choice which was suggested by Rhyanne and also the border designed by Arthalia.

Colour code and font choice :

Rationale for choosing Justice card for Medusa :

Rough Sketch :
Engraving of Medusa's major life events :
From left to right : Poseidon spotted Medusa when she was still a priestess, Poseidon approaches Medusa indicating their affair (assuming Medusa was being forced and raped by Poseidon), Medusa begged for Athena's mercy, Athena turned Medusa into a snake-haired monster, Medusa turned her victims into stones, Perseus appeared, Perseus slayed Medusa's head.

The idea of using engravings to visualise Medusa's story was suggested by my groupmate Arthalia, I liked the idea so I tried to visualise using engraving styles. It was pretty hard for me especially at the beginning, as the art style is distinct (being ancient-like), I tried to keep it as simple as possible to not overwhelm myself. As I drew this engravings, I felt very sad about Medusa's tale, and I had new perception that Medusa being able to turn people into stones by mere gaze, might indicate that we must be careful with what our eyes often perceive things to be, do not only rely on your eyes to see, as it could be false perception and not the full picture to the story. Fully dependent on your eyes to judge and perceive things can be dangerous. (turning into stone by gaze as a metaphor)

Reflection :

Experience : I enjoyed this module as we have the freedom to choose any topic that we are interested. Learning about the stories and discovering the lessons or meaning behind our chosen Greek mythological creatures helped me to also warn myself about being careful when perceiving things only depending on what you see with your eyes, and always be less judgmental when I have not understand the whole picture of the situation. Although it was a hectic journey through a short semester, we managed to complete the tasks. One harder thing is that because we are all shy people, I had to take the initiative of reminding and initiating group meetings and work distribution to allow us being able to meet the datelines, it is harder for me because I am not good at leading. Nevertheless, I loved the outcome we managed to produce at last.

Observation: Through this module, we have definitely grown to be more matured and open-minded throughout the group project and solved the obstacles to accomplish the tasks.

Findings: I found out that culture is a very in-depth topic to research and understand, it can be involved in both physical and inner qualities of a certain group of people. Understanding how they perceive things in life and their wisdom is very interesting and inspiring.
