Key Pose : The storytelling drawing / main idea.
Example : Walking > Pick up pen > write on board.

Key Poses, Extremes, Breakdowns, In-Betweens.

Week 8 - reference & pose sketching

To-Do :
  1. Find a video reference for actions such as jumping, kicking, punching etc

  2. Observe the reference. Analyse the motion and identify the extreme poses and breakdown poses. Do a thumbnail sketch of the motion

  3. Compile the motion study in a slide and submit as PDF together with video in the next process.

Week 9 - Blocking

For video referencing in blender:

1. Split a new window.
2. Mode : Video sequencer
3. Add > movie > select the vid > add to movie strip.
4. Add markers to the key pose, extreme poses etc.

* Select all the rigs, go to graph and select all, right click > interpolation mode > change to constant (staircase mode)

* Everytime the character's pose / limbs changes direction, it is an extreme pose.
* Animators have the freedom to adjust timing to their likings, it is encouraged to modify the animation movements from the reference video used and not copy exactly.

W10 - First Testing version (Key poses, extreme poses animation)

Feedback (w11) : The high kick in the reference video is too high, and the character rig has its limitation, as seen in the testing 1 & 2, the high kick is putting alot of stress to the character's leg as it is too extreme. Hence, by adjusting the kick to be abit lower, it would not seem too stressful for the animation to reach the height. Frame 25 to 30 needs adjustments. Take a closer observation at the reference vid.

W11 - Final Action Animation 


Reflection : 
Project 2 is definitely a challenging one, I realised how important it is to study poses more accurately especially regarding how the hips movement rotates, aligning with limbs movements which might not move at the same timings. Sketching some key poses out before even animating actually helps alot, especially when the character's leg is twisting side ways before kicking up, and having the key and extreme poses right is the key to make the whole thing work. Timing wise is also hard as we have to adjust it using our own intuition and feel. Overall I think it is a fun project and the process is enjoyable despite it being a difficult one, and alot can still be improved in the future. Nevertheless, I definitely learnt alot from this experience.
