Sound Editing on Adobe Audition
- Friction sound by the plastic hair curler, edited into electric buzzing sound effect by adding flanger > jimmy.
- Alloy pins dropping sound, edited into coin sound.
I edited the electric sfx ver 1 (softer) and electric sfx 2 (louder) to sync with the video first before adding other sounds to it as it makes it easier.
Bandlab : I decided to create some atmospheric sound music to complement to the game surrounding theme, a bit of mysterious and horror feel.
Virtual Instruments used : Organ, Pan Flute, Piano
Exporting the bandlab recording to wav.
Bandlab layers.
After exporting the bandlab mixdown into wav file, I proceeded to add it into the audition project and edited it to suit the atmosphere. I gave it reverb for more surrounded echoey, parametric eq to gain the bass (eq 1, 2) and tone down abit on 5. Then, I played around with the flanger presets, and found that Tonal Sadness gave the echoey and mysterious echoey sound to the music.
I continue to edit the recorded sounds into sfx. The list shows the common effects and tools used during the process.
Parametric Equaliser, Flanger, Chorus, Phaser, Pitch Shifter, Reverb, Denoise, Distortion, Echoe.
Bug (Fly) sound effect : used bandlab solo violin, with added effect for waviness to sound like cartoon fly. (Flanger - Jimmy, Flanger - Buzziness, Echoes)
Monster growl sound : bandlab using Major Portamento, then edited in audition with flanger, etc.
After audio editing, I saved the mixdown track to wav file and import into premiere pro to combine it with the video.
Final Sonic Design Project (Hollow Knight)
Reflection :
Not gonna lie, I was clueless at first when I started planning out the project because we could not use sounds that are on the internet, it must be all our own recordings and that was overwhelming to me as I could not imagine creating my own sfx. But tuned out that this project was really fun despite time and energy constraints, I never thought game sounds could be created in such organic way, and editing the sounds is like mixing potions to make the sound becoming something we could not really anticipate at first, I was just tweaking around experimenting with every effects. It was fun but also quite hard because of my inexperience. But definitely, I hope I would have the chance to do this kind of projects again!
